Scrubbers can be designed to meet any emission standard

Emission Control

The BOS system was designed to achieve very low emissions and thus eliminate the need for auxiliary scrubbers. Depending on your local jurisdiction, a standard BOS system without auxiliary scrubbers may meet emission standards In the United States, many BOS systems are operating without using downstream emissions abatement systems and still meet Environmental Protection Agency standards, thus demonstrating the efficiency of the BOS thermal process. The BOS has several design features that makes it more environmentally friendly when compared to other thermal treatment technologies:

  • Once the waste is loaded into the BOS's primary gasification chamber, it is sealed and the waste is not moved or agitated as in other thermal processes.  This means that during the gasification process the production of small particulates (fly-ash) is reduced dramatically, thus reducing the emissions and minimizing the need for downstream scrubbers or filters.
  • Prolonged exposure to temperature in the primary chamber ensures that almost 100% burn-out is achieved.
  • The ash residue is nonhazardous and virtually inert, making it suitable for recycling.
  • Accurate temperature control in both chambers is achieved automatically through PLC control.  This allows the gasification process to be slow and stable, thus avoiding high temperature fluctuations which can result in incomplete combustion and NOx production.
  • The low temperatures in the gasification stage allows light metals and alloys to remain intact, although totally sanitized.
  • Turbulent mixing and retention of combustion gases in the secondary chamber with high temperature ensure that the combustion process is fully completed.

All equipment supplied by EnerWaste will be compatible with the local environmental standards (or higher standards if requested by the client). If more stringent emission control standards are required, EnerWaste can supply auxiliary emission control equipment including flue gas coolers, wet or dry scrubbers for acid gas treatment, activated carbon filters/injection systems for dioxins and heavy metals, NOx abatement systems, and particulate filters. These systems will be designed and supplied according to your unique requirements.
